Dr Sarah Woolner

My research

My broad interests are tissue morphogenesis, cell division and the mitotic spindle. A current focus in my lab is trying to understand how the mechanical environment of a tissue (e.g. stretching or pushing tissues) influences cell division.

My journey

I really enjoy both - science is challenging and fun and so is being a mum. I took seven months maternity leave when Alice was born and then returned to work part-time (three days/week for the first year, then four days). I plan to stay part-time for the foreseeable future as I enjoy the time this gives me with Alice. Vital to doing this has been an understanding and hardworking lab, a partner who splits the childcare with me, and a fellowship that has provided flexible funding.
