International mobility of researchers: a review of the literature

04 May 2017

The Royal Society has commissioned RAND Europe to investigate the international mobility of researchers, with a particular focus on the UK. The aim of the work is to better understand the patterns of mobility, drivers of and barriers to mobility, and the benefits and consequences of mobility of researchers.

In this report, RAND Europe have reviewed the existing literature on this topic and present their findings. In a related study, they report the findings of a survey of academic researchers currently based in the UK, addressing some of the gaps identified in the literature review.
