Memorandum for an Incoming Government

01 April 1997

An incoming Government will face many policy issues demanding urgent and careful consideration. This statement highlights issues that the Society regards as specially important for the future of the national science base and the proper role of scientific advice in policy-making: the danger arising from an increasingly short-term attitude towards funding research, the need to recognise the international nature of scientific research, and effective use of independent expert advice.
