OST: Sustainability of university research

30 September 2003

In September 2003 the Royal Society submitted a response to the report on the sustainability of university research by the Office of Science and Technology. The Society recommends that the Government provide the Research Councils with sufficient resources to pay the full direct costs of the projects they fund, excluding any costs relating to the Principle Investigator. However, the Society also strongly believes a more fundamental review of the overall public funding of university research is needed.
