DoH: Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990

30 November 2005

In November 2005 the Royal Society responded to the Department of Healths consultation on the review of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act. The Societys response supports the existing Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act (1990). We believe that the framework that the Act provides is still sufficiently broad to cover current research developments and that the list of legitimate purposes for licensed research involving embryos remains appropriate. The Society hopes that the Government will build on the 1990 Act to encourage and promote good research in this field without adding to the already heavily regulated research environment.
