Quadripartite Committee: Export control legislation

21 November 2006

In November 2006, the Society submitted evidence to the Quadripartite Committee's post-legislative scrutiny of the Export Control Act 2002 and the orders made under the Act. The Society is committed to ensuring that academic freedoms are not unduly hindered by any new legislation or regulation. The scientific community appreciates its responsibilities in combating terrorism and weapons proliferation and consequently welcomes the majority of the legislation.

The House of Commons Quadripartite Committee consists of members of four Commons Committees: Defence, Foreign Affairs, International Development and Trade and Industry. The Committee's main job is to review Government policy on licensing arms exports and licensing decisions.
