Response to the UCAS proposal to introduce a new UCAS Tariff

This statement contains feedback to UCAS on the proposals for the introduction of a new Tariff system. The UCAS Tariff system is a comparison tool for qualifications, used to support admissions to higher education.

In the response, it notes that the mathematics landscape post-16 differs significantly from that of other subjects, in that students can take a range of options including AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and now 'Core Maths'. The response makes the case for AS Further Mathematics being recognised as 50% of an A level in Tariff points, rather than the proposed 40%.  

In relation to 'Core Maths', if the qualifications that awarding organisations submit to the Tariff Advisory Group are of similar size to AS qualifications, it is essential that they carry the equivalent UCAS Tariff points to an AS.
