Consultation response: Migration Advisory Committee’s Call for Evidence: Review of Tier 2

25 September 2015

The Government has commissioned the Migration Advisory Committee to review the Tier 2 (General) visa route. This is the main route used by UK institutions to recruit non-EEA science and research professionals to the UK. This submission builds on the letter submitted by the Society to the Migration Advisory Committee’s Call for Evidence on minimum salary thresholds for Tier 2.

The Society has responded to this Call for Evidence jointly with its sister Academies. The national Academies submission emphasises the value of non-EU researchers to the UK and the importance of maintaining the ability of UK institutions to recruit them. The submission addresses the many specific proposals in the Call for Evidence and discusses their potential impacts on the UK research and innovation ecosystem.
