Royal Society President writes to Prime Minister welcoming the new net-zero emissions target

Venki Ramakrishnan, President of the Royal Society, has written to the Prime Minister welcoming the announcement that the UK will introduce legislation to eradicate its net contribution to climate change by 2050.

The letter welcomes this step, which further establishes the UK's position as an ambitious and effective leader on climate change and highlights the importance of research and innovation in delivering this. The Royal Society also offers its support for the UK government's bid to host COP26, the UN climate summit.
