National Academy Presidents write to new Chancellor

The President's of the UK's four National Academies have written to the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, to highlight the importance of research and innovation to the UK's economy.

The letter outlines the need to stand by existing commitments to invest 2.4% of GDP in in UK R&D by 2027 and 3% in the long term, and calls upon the government to deliver the transformative public investment required to achieve this. It also calls upon the government to seek the closest achievable association to Horizon Europe - the successor to the EU's current research and innovation programme - Horizon 2020.
