American Friends of the Royal Society (AFRS)

The American Friends of the Royal Society is a US not-for-profit organisation that provides support to the Royal Society in the UK and promotes its work.

Currently, the Royal Society has over 330 Fellows and Foreign Members based in the United States, many of whom have made important contributions in the fields of the sciences. The friendship and generosity of US-based supporters play a vital role in assisting the Royal Society’s mission to recognise, promote, and support excellence in science and to encourage the development and use of science for the benefit of humanity.

The American Friends of the Royal Society (AFRS) is a 501(c)(3) charity registered in the State of Delaware which raises funds for the benefit of the Royal Society.

The AFRS is a US tax exempt organisation and gifts made to it are tax deductible in the United States under IRS code 501(c)(3). The AFRS taxpayer ID number is 31-1708031. In compliance with IRS regulations, the AFRS Board of Directors maintains complete discretion over allocation of the gifts it receives. Gifts to the charity qualify for an income tax deduction to the full extent allowed by law. For information about how the data of US-based Fellows, Foreign Members and friends is used,  please see the Royal Society’s privacy policy.

Support the Royal Society from the United States

For more than 350 years, gifts from Fellows, Foreign Members and friends have helped the Royal Society to maintain its financial independence and react quickly to changing circumstances. Your support will enable the Society to continue supporting scientific discoveries benefitting humanity and our planet.

Fellows, Foreign Members, and friends who are based in the United States are welcome to make tax-efficient donations to the Royal Society by giving to the American Friends of the Royal Society (AFRS).  Your donation is deductible the same year in which is made. Please be sure contributions sent to us by post are postmarked on or before December 31 of the year in which you plan to claim a deduction.

The AFRS sends a letter of acknowledgement to all their donors, either electronically or by post, which can be used as a tax receipt.
