Machine learning resources

Machine learning is a form of artificial intelligence (AI) that allows computer systems to carry out complex processes by learning from data, rather than following pre-programmed rules. Recent years have seen exciting advances in machine learning, with many people now interacting with systems based on machine learning every day.

The Royal Society’s programme of work on machine learning has been investigating the potential of this technology over the next 5-10 years, and the barriers to realising that potential. Machine learning is having an impact on today’s classroom, as it will likely have a dramatic effect on the sorts of jobs and skills available to young people in the future workplace. 

AI is often only mentioned in computing lessons, but it can also be used to successfully support science through the lens of machine learning. Teachers from the Royal Society Schools Network have developed some lesson plans that can support students learning about machine learning in the world around them at secondary level.
